Chaminade Secondary School alumni have once again demonstrated their unwavering commitment to giving back to their alma mater. On November 27, 2024, the alumni, comprising members from across Malawi and even as far as China, donated mattresses worth 8 million Kwacha to the school.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Mr. Kayange, the Chairperson of Chaminade Alumni Association, emphasized the importance of the donation. “This contribution has come at a critical time when students were struggling due to the poor condition of the mattresses. The ones they were using were in pieces, making it difficult for them to focus on their studies,” he explained.
Chaminade Secondary School, established in 1962, has produced numerous patriotic alumni dedicated to supporting the institution that shaped their lives. This latest initiative highlights their commitment to addressing the school’s challenges. Last year, the alumni resolved critical issues by fixing the water supply system and restoring electricity to the school.
The headteacher Mr Pwele, on behalf of the staff, expressed heartfelt gratitude to the alumni. “Your unwavering support continues to make a significant difference. These mattresses will greatly improve the living conditions of our students,” he said.
Adding to the joyous occasion, Mr. Levi Mnthali, representing the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), presented a sum of 530,000 Kwacha to the staff as a token of appreciation. This gesture was in recognition of Chaminade’s remarkable performance in the recent Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations, which placed the school among the top-performing secondary schools in the country.
The event not only celebrated the alumni’s generosity but also showcased the strong bond between the school, its alumni, and its stakeholders. Such efforts underscore the value of collaboration and patriotism in fostering a conducive learning environment for future generations.
